The FCC Cybersecurity Pilot Program for K-12 schools and libraries officially opened its application window on September 17, 2024, and closes on November 1, 2024. This three-year program, with a budget of $200 million, is aimed at helping eligible schools and libraries enhance their cybersecurity infrastructure by providing funding for cybersecurity services and equipment.

To apply, participants must complete Part 1 of FCC Form 484, detailing their cybersecurity needs and plans. Eligible entities include schools and libraries that meet the E-Rate Program requirements. Funding is available for services like advanced firewalls, endpoint protection, and identity protection, with allocations of up to $13.60 per student for schools and $15,000 per library annually.

If selected, schools will proceed through a competitive bidding process for the desired services and equipment before receiving funds. This pilot is an important initiative for bolstering the defenses of educational institutions against rising cyber threats.
